Who runs the website?

The site is part of Landscape Observatory, an incubator project funded by the Protected Landscape Partnership and administered by the Peak District National Park Authority. The Authority is registered as a data controller with the ICO, our registration number is Z7027992.

What happens when I use the website?

By using the site, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined here. This notice will update accordingly should any changes occur. Please check back regularly. If you don’t agree please stop using the site.

What personal data do you collect and why?

  • Enquiry forms – you will be asked to provide your name, email address and/or phone number. We use the information to respond to your enquiry and to communicate with you on matters relating to the provision of the service.
  • Email subscriptions – you will be asked to provide your name, email address, organisation and your job title. This information will action your subscription and provide you with email information as requested.  We share your information with Intuit Mailchimp, the platform we use to send you email updates. Intuit’s data centres are located in the USA. For more information please read the Intuit Privacy Notice.

How can I stop receiving email updates?

You can change your mind at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of the email you’ve received or by contacting landscapeobservatory@peakdistrict.gov.uk.

Do you use cookies?

  • Comments left on site – for convenience, you can opt in to saving your name, email address, and the website in cookies. This means that you do not need to re-enter your details if you want to leave another comment. These cookies will last for 1 year.  We collect the data shown in the comments form and also the IP (internet protocol) address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it.  Please see the Gravatar Privacy Policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Your profile picture is publicly available once the comment is approved.
  • Google Analytics – we use Google Analytics to collect statistics about site usage, such as when you last visited the site. This information helps us to improve the user experience.  The cookies contain no personal information and are only used for web analytics.

How do you look after my data?

We are committed to collecting and using data fairly and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), the UK Data Protection Act and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. The details that you provide us are not shared, without your express consent, for any other purpose than providing you with the service you have signed up for. We have put in place suitable GDPR-compliant measures and procedures. This is to safeguard your information, and ensure that Intuit Mailchimp has done the same.

How long do you keep my data for?

The information you provide will be deleted from our records 1 year from the date of the enquiry. This is unless we are subject to any legal obligation that requires us to retain for longer. 

The information you provide when you subscribe will be retained for as long as the Landscape Observatory is an active project. This will be reviewed at 3-year intervals.

You can exercise your right to have your data deleted, see the next section on ‘How can I access or delete my data’.

How can I access or delete my data?

You have the following rights under GDPR: to access a copy of your data, to have inaccurate data corrected, and to restrict the processing of your data. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, contact landscapeobservatory@peakdistrict.gov.uk. There may be some circumstances where we are unable to delete your data – these are set out here.

What if I click on one of the website links?

This website may contain links to other websites of interest. We’re not responsible for the content of those websites. Additionally, we have no control over how they manage the information you may provide whilst visiting the site. We would recommend checking their privacy notices before sharing any personal data.

Will this privacy notice change?

Yes, it may be updated.  We’ll post any changes on this page. The latest update was on 14 August 2025.
