Bridging the Dataset Gaps in Monitoring at Landscape Scale
Landscape Observatory is uniting AI mapping, habitat condition monitoring, and Adaptive Management to conserve and protect our landscapes from the impacts of climate change. This means we can monitor at landscape scale.
As conservation decisions increasingly shift to the landscape scale from site levels, there is a pressing need for monitoring that is relevant, consistent, and actionable across all geographic scales. While many datasets exist at national or individual site levels, protected landscapes often face critical data gaps, characterized by fragmented, outdated, or missing systems. Demonstrating and monitoring effective management and the explicit consideration of the impacts of climate change through forward-looking adaptation strategies requires detailed, integrated insights at the landscape level.
Conservation management of landscapes biodiversity is not only about preserving specific species, but about safeguarding the dynamic and interconnected systems that allow ecosystems to function, adapt, and thrive in the face of rapid environmental change.
We need data and monitoring strategies at landscape scale that support understanding of the climate driven changes to the patterns of biodiversity and the underlying ecosystem processes that sustain it.
