In this recorded presentation introducing Landscape Observatory, Director Simon Geikie explains the importance of the project and how it helps the Protected Landscapes respond to the accelerating impacts of climate change. As rising temperatures, shifting weather patterns, and increasing pressures on land use transform our environments, Landscape Observatory provides a space to understand these changes and explore ways to respond.
Simon explains how Adaptive Management, an approach that embraces flexibility and adjustment over time, can help to guide decision-making in uncertain and rapidly changing conditions. He also highlights the use of the Resist, Accept, Direct (RAD) framework, which helps practitioners decide when to preserve existing landscapes, when to accept unavoidable changes and when to actively shape new futures.
Landscape Observatory bridges a vital gap in landscape protection and monitoring. It ensures that landscapes and understood and cared for in the face of climate change.
